Vers la constitution d’un Centre de Recherche pluridisciplinaire pour le Patrimoine à l’UNamur ?

Soutenue par notre Vice-Rectrice à la Recherche et coorganisée par les instituts PaTHs et NISM, cette rencontre vise à créer des synergies et à favoriser les échanges entre acteurs issus des « sciences humaines », d’une part, et des « sciences exactes », d’autre part. Nous sommes en effet convaincus que les techniques de caractérisation des matériaux – au sens large – disponibles à l’UNamur peuvent contribuer à renouveler les questionnements en Histoire, en Histoire de l’Art et en Archéologie.

Pour illustrer l’intérêt de ces potentielles synergies, nous traiterons, dans une première session, de deux cas de figure concrets pour la période médiévale, l’un relatif à l’analyse des monnaies et l’autre à l’étude des matériaux de l’écrit. Plusieurs physiciens exposeront ensuite les capacités analytiques de leurs techniques de caractérisation appliquées aux objets patrimoniaux. Une troisième session, organisée après un repas convivial, sera réservée aux participants de ce séminaire qui souhaiteraient évoquer leurs propres thématiques de recherche en sciences humaines ou leurs techniques de caractérisation en sciences exactes. Nous clôturerons cette journée par l’organisation d’une « table ronde », dont l’ambition sera d’identifier les thématiques pour lesquelles des projets de recherche pluridisciplinaires pourraient rapidement voir le jour.

À plus long terme, nous espérons vivement que de nombreuses et fructueuses collaborations prendront forme suite à cette rencontre. Mieux, nous pourrions envisager, ensemble, la création d’un Centre de Recherche pour le Patrimoine à l’UNamur, si cela semble pertinent au sortir des discussions.

Ce séminaire d’une journée s’adresse donc à tout scientifique ayant un intérêt en archéométrie et souhaitant s’investir dans le développement de recherches pluridisciplinaires dans le champ des sciences du Patrimoine à l’UNamur. La journée sera organisée en français, mais toute personne souhaitant s’exprimer en anglais est la bienvenue.

Towards the constitution of a multidisciplinary Research Centre for Heritage at the UNamur?

Supported by our Vice-Rector for Research and co-organised by the PaTHs and NISM institutes, this meeting aims to create synergies and encourage exchanges between actors from the 'human sciences' on the one hand, and the 'exact sciences' on the other. We are indeed convinced that the techniques of material characterisation - in the broadest sense - available at UNamur can contribute to renewing the questions in History, Art History and Archaeology.

To illustrate the interest of these potential synergies, we will deal, in a first session, with two concrete cases for the medieval period, one relating to the analysis of coins and the other to the study of written materials. Several physicists will then present the analytical capacities of their characterisation techniques applied to heritage objects. A third session, organised after a convivial meal, will be reserved for participants of this seminar who would like to talk about their own research themes in the human sciences or their characterisation techniques in the exact sciences. We will close this day with a "round table", the ambition of which will be to identify themes for which multidisciplinary research projects could rapidly be developed.

In the longer term, we sincerely hope that many fruitful collaborations will take shape following this meeting. Better still, we could even envisage, together, the creation of a Research Centre for Heritage at UNamur, if this seems relevant after the discussions.

This one-day seminar is therefore aimed at any scientist with an interest in archaeometry and wishing to invest in the development of multidisciplinary research in the field of heritage sciences at UNamur. The day will be organised in French, but anyone wishing to speak in English is welcome.
